It is, along with caries, the most widespread disease of humanity.

Healthy gums are light pink in color, have the appearance of an orange peel, and do not bleed. They are the foundation of our teeth and age with us.

Unfortunately, gums often undergo changes, swell, turn red, become hypersensitive, and bleed at the slightest touch. If inflammation is not treated, it progresses. It affects deeper tissues and causes complications. In the initial stage, the disease can be treated simply and successfully.

How and why does gingivitis occur

It has been scientifically proven that not cleaning or poor oral hygiene causes the formation of dental plaque on and around the tooth.

When food is left behind and dental plaque forms, in the space between the gingiva and the sulcus, toxins from bacteria or plaque cause initial inflammation of the gums, which manifests as BLEEDING.

Bacteria from dental plaque double within 24 hours to an impressive number of four million bacteria per square millimeter. These billions of microbes invade the space between the gums and teeth, causing inflammation and tartar deposits to penetrate deep into the gums, leading to bone destruction and loose teeth.

The accompanying symptoms of all periodontal diseases vary and largely depend on your general health and the damage to the underlying tooth.

Tip:

Check your gums

Are they bleeding?

Are they swollen?

Are they discolored?

If you answered yes to all of the questions, you have GINGIVITIS, which is the beginning of periodontal disease. CONTACT YOUR DENTIST IMMEDIATELY.

Remember: Untreated gingivitis affects deeper tissues, resulting in PERIODONTITIS.

The acute form of the disease becomes chronic. Your breath will become increasingly unpleasant, you will not be able to wash it off with anything, no matter how much you brush your teeth. SUBMIT TO YOUR DENTIST IMMEDIATELY.

Tip: pay attention to oral hygiene, clean the interdental spaces with dental floss

Treatment of periodontal disease

It depends on the condition of the gums, the depth of the pocket measured with a calibrated periodontal probe, the X-ray image and your general health. There is no single cure for periodontal disease. There are many mechanical and medicinal agents that are used during and after periodontal therapy.

Periodontal diseases (a collective term for all types of diseases of the supporting system of the teeth) begin with inflammation, bleeding, receding gums, and end with loss of supporting bone, looseness, and tooth loss.

The essence of periodontal therapy is the removal of gram-negative anaerobic microbes that grow and develop without the presence of oxygen in the depths of the dental pocket. It is known that in the most severe form of periodontitis we find five types of different combinations of mixed colonies of microorganisms. This is important for treatment, because by killing one bacterium with an antibiotic, the other four spread. Among them, the most dangerous are: A. Actinomycetemcomitans, B. Forsitus, P. Gingivalis, B. Mikros, etc.

This is also the main problem of today’s drug therapy. Smokers predominantly have such a combination of microbes for which there is almost no completely effective medicine.

Therefore, the basis of today’s therapy is mechanical effect. This is done by ultrasonic or manual removal of all deposits, scraping from the tooth roots, supported by local drug treatment of the affected area.

Remember: therapy in a neglected and dirty mouth is unsuccessful

In the second phase of treatment, numerous surgical methods allow for the re-strengthening of the teeth and a favorable cosmetic effect.

A periodontal examination can determine:

no bleeding

bleeding from the sulcus with gentle probing

presence of tartar

presence of pockets up to 5 mm

presence of pockets over 5 mm

Therapy consists of removing dental plaque and tartar, oral hygiene instructions, polishing and root planing, local and general medications to improve general health (avoiding stress, smoking, etc.) and prosthetic replacement of lost teeth.

What else besides dental plaque damages the periodontal ligament?

First of all, it is one-sided chewing. When a tooth is missing or feels pain, we chew with the opposite side, i.e. the healthy side, and this can quickly become a habit. This puts a strain on the teeth on that side, and on the unused side, due to the lack of chewing stimulation, the periodontium deteriorates.

Constant unconscious pressure with the tongue on one tooth or group of teeth causes microdamage to the periodontal ligament, causing the tooth to become loose.

Long-term teeth grinding, bruxism and bruxomania.

If there is no proper contact between the filled teeth, pushing food under chewing pressure damages the gums.

Sideward pushing of food, if the gingiva between the teeth has been damaged or destroyed by constant and irregular picking of the teeth with a toothpick. Food pushed in this way is a real breeding ground for bacteria, and symptoms such as: foreign body sensation, pressure, pain, redness or the appearance of pus on the gums appear.

["post-646","vise-o-zubima","type-vise-o-zubima","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry
["GET
